The working party have just been voted by the Ramblers' Association as one of the top three groups in Wales. This is further recognition of the splendid work they do, in all weathers to improve and keep open paths in our area.

Our group of champion volunteers have been rewarded for their efforts. Torfaen's mayor Councillor Doug Davies, presented civic testimonials to the council's countryside team, who turn out every week, rain or shine to ensure public rights of way are open and in good condition. The oldest volunteer is Nelson Morton 83. He sets out each week with teammates Dan Hadfield, Brian Couzens, Derrick Hynam, Timothy Dowle and Ryan Parfitt. Councillor Davies said: "it gives me great pleasure to honor these unsung heroes in this way, their work in the community is to be highly commended."

Volunteers STEP to it!

One of the jobs tackled by our team was to erect a set of metal steps on a footpath near Pontypool.

The paths exit from the wood, down a very steep bank was potentially quite dangerous.

This route has been now made safe thanks to our team of volunteers!

Keep up the good work guys!!
